There are many usage cases for a listing page on your website that is only accessible to those with the exact URL of the listing:
- Many of our clients have exclusive (privately listed, not on MLS®) listings, shared privately to an exclusive pool of buyers/Realtors®.
- You want to show the homeowner the listing page on your website without making it public on your website (either before it hits the MLS®, or perhaps you are trying to win the listing contract).
- You want to allow previews of a listing privately by sharing the URL directly through an email newsletter, a chat platform (iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegraph), or posting it on a forum (Facebook Group)
The "PRIVATE" Listings Feature (New in 2025)
By setting a listing to "PRIVATE" on the Brixwork website admin, you can make the listing only visible to those who have the address. These listing pages are also marked as "do not crawl" meaning Google, Bing and other search engines will not include these pages on their search indexes.
Do not confuse this with a manually uploaded listing without an MLS# (without importing from the MLS®). Custom loaded listings are still visible on your website, and encouraged to be crawled by search engines.
1. Login the the backend and navigate to "Manage Listings"
2. Locate the listing that you want to turn private.
You can only set your own listings (entered manually, or converted to your OWN from MLS®). MLS® reciprocity featured listings from other agents/brokerages remain public by default, obviously.
To understand the differences between your OWN listings and MLS® listings on websites with MLS® Reciprocity, please read the following solutions articles:

3. Set the listing to a "private" listing.
Using the Status dropdown (usually set to "PUBLISHED"), Select the "PRIVATE" option. Note that "HIDDEN" means the URL does not give access to anybody except logged-in users on your website's admin system.
Listings that are set to "PRIVATE" will also show a padlock icon over the listing photo.
4. Copy the listing page URL to share privately.
Either copy the URL directly from the PREVIEW button (right click), or click on the PREVIEW button to open the listing on a new window, then copy the URL from the top address bar.
Test The Listing Visibility and Troubleshooting
Navigate to your "Featured Listings" page that shows gallery of your listings and ensure the listing is no longer visible. Refresh the page to see the latest changes.
If the listing is still visible after the browser refresh, please contact Brixwork at [email protected] for the fix.
Understanding Google (and other search engine) Indexing Behaviour
Once indexed, it can take a while to be removed from search results:
- If the listing has been Public for a while before setting it to Private, the listing might already be indexed and may show up on Google Search. It's up to Google™ to decide when to de-list this URL, and our support cannot provide an accurate estimate on how long this can take.
- To prevent this, set the listing to Private as soon as the listing has converted to own.
